Niki Lauda released from hospital following illness

Three-time Formula One champion and non-executive chairman of the Mercedes F1 team Niki Lauda has been released from hospital after being treated for influenza. The 69-year-old Austrian became ill whilst on a family holiday in Ibiza in December, and was taken to Vienna General Hospital for treatment. Following a lung transplant in August, the decision to bring Lauda back into hospital was a precautionary one to ensure there were no complications from the transplant. The hospital confirmed that he had been released on Wednesday. A world champion in 1975, 1977 and 1984, Lauda was involved in a near-fatal crash in 1976 which caused severe burns to his hands, lungs and face. He made a...
