Wolff: Briatore dinner not about Alonso deal
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has downplayed suggestions that Fernando Alonso is in contention for a race set with the team despite meeting Flavio Briatore in Baku. A picture of Briatore dining with Wolff and Niki Lauda posted by the former Benetton and Renault boss on Twitter inevitably set tongues wagging, as did a public meeting for the other member of Alonso's management team – Luis Garcia Abad – with Renault chief Cyril Abiteboul. Alonso further stoked the flames when he was asked if he had found the Azerbaijan weekend as painful as his McLaren team boss Eric Boullier had, and replied: "So far it has been quite positive.
