Vettel fastest prior to rain in Austria
Scuderia Ferrari Sebastian Vettel set the quickest time during the final practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix before predicted rain swept in at the Red Bull Ring. Vettel posted a time of 1:09.994 to edge out Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton by just 0.017s, having clocked their best laps on the Prime tyres. The drivers were set to complete runs on the Option tyres but Fernando Alonso stopped out on track with a transmission issue, bringing out the red flag. Both Ferrari and Mercedes drivers lined up at the end of the pit lane on Options but as they did so the expecting rain arrived, leading the quartet to complete a slow lap as rain lashed the circuit.
