Russell and Verstappen back louder engines for 2026
Article To news overview © XPBimages George Russell and Max Verstappen want to see Formula 1 return to louder engines when the next power unit regulations come into effect in 2026. While the current 1.6 litre V6 engine formula can range between 110 and 120 decibels, it is a far cry from the ear-shattering noise that used to be made by the naturally aspirated V8 and V10 engines. F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has made a promise that the new engines will bring back some of the louder noise that has been lost by the electrification and energy harvesting technologies.
