Hamilton: New Istanbul surface ‘sh*t with capital s'
Lewis Hamilton got straight to the point when criticising the new surface at Istanbul Park ahead of the Turkish GP. Formula 1 is making its first visit to Turkey since 2011, but the drivers have been greeted with a new, shiny surface at this popular venue. The result in Friday practice was that the competitors struggled terribly for grip, only making it into the 1:28s come the afternoon session, over four seconds slower than the race lap record. Hamilton couldn't even squeeze a 1:28 out of his W11, finishing the afternoon session in P4. He branded the new surface as a waste of money and 'sh*t with a capital s'.
