Vandoorne lands Mercedes 2020 reserve driver role
Ex-McLaren racer Stoffel Vandoorne has been given the role of Mercedes reserve driver for the 2020 campaign. Vandoorne was replaced at McLaren by Lando Norris after the 2018 season and made the switch to Formula E where he races for Mercedes' team alongside 2019 F2 Champion Nyck de Vries. He will share duties on race weekends with fellow ex-F1 driver Esteban Gutierrez who has been part of the Mercedes programme for the past two seasons. Esteban Ocon had served as the Silver Arrows' full-time test driver last year but will return to the grid in 2020 after signing with Renault.
