Symonds admits aero changes for 2019 was wrong move

Formula 1's Pat Symonds admits that in hindsight tweaking the aero rules for 2019 to help promote closer racing was the wrong decision. For last season, Formula 1 and the FIA ushered in an aero package destined to allow cars to follow each other more closely and improve the potential for overtaking. The modifications, which included a less sophisticated front wing, simplified front brake ducts with no winglets and a wider, deeper rear wing, were seen as a 'trial and error' phase in the run-up towards the sport's 2021 regulation overhaul.
