Renault: Really disappointing but we are competitive

Daniel Ricciardo took the gamble to join Renault for this year and the next with great expectations but his first qualifying of the 2019 Formula 1 season on home soil is hardly the start he would have wished for. The Aussie was only good for 12th, a tenth slower than teammate Nico Hulkenberg in 11th, which barring penalties mean they will own the sixth row for tomorrow's race and the frenzy of the midfield on the cards for their race day. At the end of the day, Ricciardo will be forgiven a glance at times set by his former teammate Max Verstappen at Red Bull and see him up in fourth, however, his replacement Pierre Gasly in 17th might be some consolation.
