Austin FP2: Hamilton reigns in the rain

There was no stopping Lewis Hamilton on the opening day of the United States Grand Prix weekend, the Mercedes driver dominated both free practice sessions on a rain-affected day with limited running due to the conditions. When they were out on track, no one could match Hamilton. In the morning he was 1.3 seconds faster than his closest rival in the six laps, in the afternoon stanza at Circuit of the Americas again the world champion topped the timing screens with only three laps set in anger. This time he was a second faster than second-placed Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly who was five-hundredth of a second faster than Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. Report in progress… Create your...
