Pirelli have competition for 2020 F1 tyre contract

Hankook, a South Korean tyre manufacturer, have confirmed they've applied for the F1 tyre contract which covers 2020-2023. Pirelli look to be in pole position to take the role, but F1 will asses all options. According to Formulaspy, the FIA have accepted the bid from Hankook. If they are to get the contract, they will have to make two different types of tyres as the rule changes in 2021 come into effect. The current 13-inch wheels will increase in size to 18-inches. This makes Pirelli favourites as they already have a rough tyre developed for the 2020 season and can begin work on the 2021 tyre earlier. At least Pirelli have competition on their hands!
