New helmets to become standard in F1 in 2019

The FIA have announced that a new helmet standard will become mandatory from 2019 onwards. The FIA will bring in new helmet standards for Formula 1 in 2019, with other championships also set to follow suit. The latest standard, called FIA 8860-2018, outlines the design and performance requirements that helmet manufacturers, such as Bell, Stilo, Arai, etc. must achieve to provide equipment for the FIA’s top series. These new helmets will offer a number of safety benefits, including advanced ballistic protection, increased energy absorption and an extended area of protection for drivers.
