Italian GP in money laundering probe
Prosecutors in Italy have reportedly uncovered an elaborate money laundering scheme involving Formula 1 and the Italian Grand Prix. According to Italian publication La Repubblica, a probe began back in 2012 and 82 people, many of which are Italian Grand Prix insiders, are under investigation for possible tax evasion and the creation of a false invoice system relating to driver sponsorship deals. Former F1 owner Bernie Ecclestone, current FIA boss Jean Todt and his son, Nicolas, are all believed to have been questioned about the matter, with Todt senior suspected by authorities of artifically inflating the sponsorship deal of then Marussia driver Jules Bianchi.
