Max Verstappen only lasted half an hour in FP1, on the first day of free practice for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, before clattering into the wall and damaging his Red Bull and adding to a growing catalogue of incidents that are doing him no favours. The young Dutchman, who has crashed or spun during all four race weekends thus far, explained his close encounter with a Baku wall, 'It was a bit more windy but I don't know…' 'I lost the rear, spun, of course, hit the wall. It was a shame. It was a bit slippery at the start. I couldn't catch the car and I hit the wall. You just have to feel your way into the track because it was very dusty and slippery, as I found out.'
