Albert Park main straight named in Ron Walker’s honour

New Walker Straight signage at Albert Park The main straight of the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit has been named after the Australian Grand Prix’s late former chairman Ron Walker. Walker was a pivotal figure in bringing the race to Melbourne in 1996 during his spell as chairman from 1994 to 2015, and also served as the city’s Lord Mayor from 1974 to 1976. He passed away in late January after battling cancer and ill health since being diagnosed with melanoma in 2011. The wall next to the start/finish line is now adorned with ‘Walker Straight’ signage, which was unveiled earlier today.
