Remembering Mike Hawthorn

©CahierArchive Today in 1959, Britain's first Formula 1 world champion died in a road accident at 29-years-old. Hawthorn had clinched the 1958 world title just a few months earlier, driving for Ferrari. It had been a traumatic season however for the Brit who, following the deaths of Scuderia team mates Luigi Musso and Peter Collins, decided to leave the sport behind.  Sadly, only months into retirement, Hawthorn would meet his own fate on a wet Thursday morning on a Guilford near London.
