Fernando Alonso says new McLaren contract is 'long-term'

Fernando Alonso confirmed on Thursday during the build-up to the United States Grand Prix that he has agreed to remain with McLaren for the 2018 season, with the deal described as 'long-term'. The Spaniard had been considering a move following three seasons of stuggles at McLaren, but after the Woking squad's decision to switch from Honda to Renault power, Alonso was convinced to remain, although many believed it would have been a single-year deal to assess the situation.
