Stoffel Vandoorne gets grid penalty for Spanish GP

McLaren-Honda driver Stoffel Vandoorne will start the Spanish Grand Prix from the back of the grid after being handed a 10-place grid penalty for taking on new power unit elements. A sensor issue was detected on Vandoorne's MCL32 ahead of Sunday's 66-lap race, and he will now take on a fifth Energy Store and Control Electronics, receiving a five-place grid demotion for each transgression. Vandoorne qualified in 19th position, his worst result in Formula 1, meaning he drops only one place, elevating Daniil Kvyat to Vandoorne's original grid berth. McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso will start from seventh place after progressing through to Q3 for the first time in 2017.
