Antonio Giovinazzi picks up gearbox change grid penalty

Sauber driver Antonio Giovinazzi has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the Chinese Grand Prix after a gearbox change. Giovinazzi, who is replacing Pascal Wehrlein in Shanghai, crashed out of qualifying in the final moments of Q1 at the last corner. He made it through to Q2 but was unable to take part and finished the session in 15th, but Sauber was forced to change his gearbox change. The Italian drops to 18th on the grid, promoting Stoffel Vandoorne, Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon up a place. Jolyon Palmer and Romain Grosjean picked up grid penalties for failing to slow for Giovinazzi’s crash and start behind him on the back row. Lewis Hamilton starts in first place for the...
