Ferrari questions suspensions, Mercedes likely to be affected

Questions raised by Ferrari over the legality of the suspension system used by Mercedes could force the defending champions to revise it ahead of the 2017 Formula One season. In a letter sent to the FIA's F1 race director Charlie Whiting last month by chief designer Simone Resta, the Italian team asked whether a complex suspension system that incidentally keeps the car stable under braking and acceleration constitutes as a moveable aerodynamic device, which is banned by the regulations. Whiting, in his response, opined that the system is 'likely' to contravene the rules. It's believed that even Red Bull ran a similar suspension last year.
