Ferrari backs out of Vettel penalty appeal plan

Ferrari has backed out of its plan to appeal the FIA’s decision not to review Sebastian Vettel’s Mexican Grand Prix penalty, having allowed the deadline to lapse. Motorsport.com understands the deadline to lodge an appeal against the penalty that dropped the German from third place to fifth in Mexico expired on Tuesday night at midnight. Ferrari announced on Thursday that it had requested a review of the penalty, saying that “new elements have come to light”, but this was rejected by the Mexican GP race stewards in a teleconference at Interlagos on Friday.
