Jenson Button will not race in 2017

Jenson Button will not race in Formula One next season but will remain with McLaren-Honda as an ambassador. The 36-year-old Brit will continue working with the team and may potentially return to a race seat in 2018, having signed a two year contract. Current McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne will be promoted to partner Fernando Alonso, whilst Button will become reserve driver and will race if either Alonso or Vandoorne are unable to.   Button said that after racing in F1 continuously since 2000 he had come to the decision over the summer break to take a rest.
