Red flags to replace double yellows in German GP qualifying Red flags will replace waved double yellows in the session of unsafe incidents in qualifying, F1 race director Charlie Whiting said today. Whiting made this newly-revised position clear following the controversial conclusion to qualifying for the Hungarian GP when Nico Rosberg’s set his pole position lap after passing yellow flags for Fernando Alonso’s stricken McLaren. The revised flag rule states that all drivers on track at the time of an incident that led to a red flag would have to stop.
