Hamilton fastest; Ricciardo crashes; McLaren impress – FP1 Report

European Grand Prix – Lewis Hamilton has gone quickest in opening practice, but it was McLaren who really impressed after the opening ninety minutes of track action in Azerbaijan. The first, tentative, laps of the Baku City Circuit took place on a very slippery track that saw plenty of yellow flags early on as drivers figured out the limits of the new venue. Most of these flags were for simple exceeding of track limits, and early times put the Mercedes drivers at the front; perhaps unsurprising considering the length of the main straight.
