Alonso clarifies request to stop car
– McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has clarified his request to "stop" his MP4-31 during the closing stages of the Canadian Grand Prix.Towards the end of the race Alonso, who was running outside of the top 10, asked "can I stop now?" via the team radio, but was told to stay out in case any opportunities arose.Alonso ultimately crossed the line in 11th position, ending McLaren's run of points, and later emphasised that his request was for fresh tyres, not to retire the car."I enquired about the possibility of fitting fresh tyres for the last few laps," he said."But I guess it was a little too much of a risk: at that point we were 11th and stood to...
