Sainz recovers to ninth from rear of the field

Canadian Grand Prix – Carlos Sainz Jr. was able to recover to 9th in Montreal, after a crash a qualifying and a gearbox penalty put him 20th on the grid. The Spaniard was showing good pace throughout practice and was set for a top ten spot in qualifying before he hit the Wall of Champions on his first lap in Q2. This put him 16th in the session. He was promoted a place by his team mate’s 3-place grid penalty for causing a collision in Monaco, but then received a 5-place grid penalty himself for a gearbox change after the crash.
