Hamilton fastest as DRS fault causes Massa crash Defending world champion, Lewis Hamilton was the fastest in the first practice session for the Canadian GP on Friday, just ahead of Mercedes teammate his teammate Nico Rosberg. The Brit completed his best lap, 1:14.755; championship leader Rosberg was .331 seconds slower. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel made third fastest ahead Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari's second speedy Kimi Raikkonen. The only trouble Hamilton faced was when he was forced to miss the final turn to avoid hitting the McLaren of Fernando Alonso after the Spaniard slowed right down in front of him.
