Button collides with drain cover during FP1
Monaco Grand Prix – A freak incident with a loose drain cover hampered Jenson Button's running in free practice one. The McLaren driver was unlucky to collect an airborne drain cover that had become detached during the first free practice session. As Button was negotiating the exit of turn one – Sainte Devote – the loose drain cover clattered into the front of his car, causing extensive damage the McLaren. The incident occurred in the final minutes of FP1 and caused the session to be ended early for track repairs. Button was able to participate in the second free practice, but complained of an overall lack of grip during the first day of running. “The morning session...
