Mercedes almost retired victor Rosberg

– Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the outfit came close to retiring Nico Rosberg on safety grounds due to a mechanical problem, before he went on to win the Australian Grand Prix.Rosberg opened his 2016 account with victory at Albert Park after switching to the Medium compound during the red flag period, and claimed the lead when Sebastian Vettel was forced to pit for fresh tyres.However, Wolff says that Mercedes came close to halting Rosberg's charge due to a problem with his W07 Hybrid."We did the maths and opted to go with one set of Mediums to the end, with the drivers on the knife edge of endurance and performance," Wolff said of Mercedes' decision during the...
