Hamilton heads Red Bulls in opening practice

Lewis Hamilton Lewis Hamilton kicked off the new Formula 1 season by topping the times in a rain interrupted opening practice for the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park. The reigning world champion made the most of a brief period of dry running towards the end of the 90 minutes to post a 1:29.725 on soft compound tyres. Red Bull impressed throughout the session, with Daniel Ricciardo heading the time sheets with an hour remaining. The Australian improved his personal best on softs to move within 0.5s of Hamilton when the track dried again before heavy rain fell in the closing minutes.
