Surtees receives CBE in New Year's Honours
– John Surtees has been made a CBE [Commander of the British Empire] in the New Year's Honours List in the United Kingdom.Surtees had already received an MBE and an OBE for his exploits in motorsport, in which he is the only person to win World Championships in motorcycle racing and Formula 1.Surtees collected seven titles in 350cc and 500cc between 1956 and 1960 before switching to Formula 1, winning the championship with Ferrari in 1964.Surtees also competed for Honda prior to founding his own team, bowing out of the sport in 1972.Following the death of his son, Henry, during a Formula 2 race in 2009, Surtees created a foundation in his honour, which primarily assists people with...
