Lotus rue lack of funds

Lotus' season had the potential to be far stronger had they had more money to develop the E23, according to technical director Nick Chester. The Enstone-based outfit remains the subject of a protracted takeover by former owners Renault, a move which would solve the team's long-running financial problems. A High Court case over unpaid tax and national insurance was adjourned for 10 weeks in September, until December 7, to give Renault time to complete its purchase of a controlling stake. Meanwhile, the financial pinch has also been felt by the team at the race track with employees locked out of their hospitality unit at the Japanese GP.
