Verstappen fastest in Mexico, cuts Esses on quick lap

Toro Rosso racer Max Versteppen topped opening practice for the Mexican Grand Prix, as Formula 1 returned to the revamped Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Verstappen posted a lap of 1m25.990 in the closing minutes of the session to go fastest from Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat by three tenths of a second. The Dutchman held onto the top spot, despite replays showing that he straight-lined the final part of the Esses section. The two Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were third and fourth, in a busy session which featured plenty of running, despite slippery conditions early on.
