Alonso loses top ten finish in 250th race
Fernando Alonso has been denied the chance to score in his 250th grand prix after a post-race penalty dropped him to 11th. The Spaniard – who started on the back row of the grid – had trailed McLaren-Honda team-mate Jenson Button across the line in tenth to pick up a single point for only his third top ten finish of the year. However, stewards would later deem him at fault for abusing track limits during the race and duly applied a five second post-race penalty to his time. As a result, Max Verstappen moves ahead of him in the final classification to claim a fifth top ten finish in six races for Toro Rosso.
