Maldonado's kerb impact was 17G

Lotus have revealed that Pastor Maldonado's impact with the kerbs at Spa registered at 17G and is why his E23 lost power. On a day when Lotus had one of the better cars out on track, Maldonado had a dismal Sunday afternoon at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Venezuelan driver was forced into retirement on lap 2 when his E23 lost power. However, it seems it wasn't so much an issue with the car but rather a massive smack into the kerbs that cost him. 'We are still checking all the parts but he had a big excursion at Eau Rouge and hit some kerbs very hard which gave the chassis a 17G impact,' explained Lotus technical director Nick Chester.
