Maldonado's retirement 'self inflicted' – Lotus

While Romain Grosjean earned Lotus their first podium since the United States Grand Prix in 2013, all Maldonado could make it to was the second lap, which the team claim the technical retirement was Maldonado's fault not the teams or engine suppliers problems.  According to the team, Maldonado went off track at Eau Rouge, which resulted in a damaged clutch control. Ultimately this meant seconds later and Maldonado experienced a sudden loss of power putting him out of the Belgian Grand Prix. This meant it was the Venezuelan's seventh retirement this season.
