‘New materials' tested by Pirelli during Austria test

Austria – Ferrari, Mercedes & Toro Rosso ran unmarked ‘prototype' front and rear tyres for Pirelli over the two day Austria test. The second day of the test at the Red Bull Ring was almost completely dry, compared to the wash-out that dominated proceedings on Day 1. The dry running allowed teams to test the super-soft, soft and medium tyres, while three of the nine teams in attendance did some reconnaissance running for Pirelli. According to the Italian tyre manufacturer, only Toro Rosso, Ferrari & Mercedes ran the tyres, which used some new materials that ‘could' be used in the 2016 tyre range.
