Hamilton quickest in first US session

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in the first practice session for the United States Grand Prix as Formula 1 returned from a three-week break at the Circuit of the Americas. Hamilton ended the session with a time of 1:39.941, 0.292s clear of Mercedes team-mate and title rival Nico Rosberg. Jenson Button, who will drop five places from wherever he qualifies due to a gearbox change, was third fastest for McLaren. Daniil Kyyat was fourth fastest in the Toro Rosso while Kevin Magnussen ended the session in fifth place, having topped the times early on.
