Hulkenberg hit with gearbox penalty
+ Nico Hulkenberg is set to be hit with a five-place grid penalty for the Russian Grand Prix following a gearbox change.
Hulkenberg retired from Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix with a gearbox failure, but he was classified eighth on count back after the race was red flagged following Jules Bianchi’s accident.
Formula 1’s regulations stipulate that a gearbox must be used for six consecutive races before it may be replaced, which Hulkenberg’s had not, meaning the German will carry a grid penalty into qualifying on Saturday.
