Drivers react to rumours of Monza Italian GP axe
Formula One drivers up and down the grid have expressed disappointment at reports that the famous Monza circuit could lose its place as the home of the Italian Grand Prix. F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone hinted earlier this week in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that Monza could lose its long-standing place as host of the Italian Grand Prix once its contract expires after 2016.
The Monza circuit has played host to the Italian Grand Prix almost exclusively since 1950, with all but one iteration of the race taking place around the hallowed circuit.
