De Villota death 'a result' of crash

María de Villota's death was a consequence of the serious injuries she suffered during her Formula 1 test for the Marussia team last year, her family has explained. The Spaniard lost her right eye and sustained major skull damage when she collided with a team support trailer in a straight line test at the Duxford Aerodrome in July of last year. Aged 33, she was found dead in a hotel room in Seville on Friday morning. De Villota had recovered sufficiently from the accident to resume her position on the Women in Motorsport Commission, and returned to the F1 paddock at Barcelona earlier this year.
