James Hunt – the Wizard of Oz
In the late 70’s, Formula One was still the stuff of fantasy for Australian motor racing fans. By the time Alan Jones won his World Championship in 1980, we were still only hearing about the victory via local news reports and any real coverage was confined to specialist print publications weeks after the event. Nevertheless, October 29 1978 was a seismic event for the diminutive town of Winton, as Australian race fans came in droves to witness a Formula One Champion at work.
