Magnussen out in front for McLaren
A burst of pace late in the day helped Kevin Magnussen and McLaren to finish top of the timesheets on day one of the Young Driver Test at Silverstone.
Force India rookie James Calado had set the pace in the morning session with a 1:33.986 with Antonio Felix da Costa from Red Bull the second fastest, but Magnussen showed plenty of pace late in the afternoon.
The 20-year-old Dane, the son of the team's former driver Jan, was bottom of the pile at lunch time, but he eventually went top as he set his fastest time on medium tyres.
He finished 0.172s ahead of Paul di Resta, who took over from Calado in the VJM06 in the afternoon, with the Scot sampling the new Pirelli tyres ahead of the...
