Alonso set ot sit out the opening practice in Japan

Aston Martin has announced that Third Driver Jak Crawford will take part in Free Practice One at the Japanese Grand Prix, stepping into Fernando Alonso’s AMR26 for the opening session of the weekend. The outing marks Crawford’s first FP1 appearance of the season in his official role as Third Driver and fulfils one of the team’s mandated rookie sessions for 2026. The 20‑year‑old American has been deeply integrated into the team’s development programme, with extensive simulator work forming a major part of his responsibilities. That preparation will be especially valuable at Suzuka — a circuit Crawford has never driven before — making the FP1 session an important opportunity...
